A report by the World Health Organisation released last month shows that of the 9000 practising physicians in New Zealand, nearly 52% are migrants, as are 29% of the country’s 38000 practising nurses and midwives. This makes New Zealand the largest per capita importer of migrant health workers in the OECD.
